On May 17th, 2022 patent 11,333,457 was granted by the USPTO. As catchy as “safety device for improved rifle dry fire practice” is, I knew I needed a better name. It was actually pretty easy…first, red is the color of stop signs, fire extinguishers and other things that make you safe. Next, many of the later prototypes and the final production model loosely resemble the shape of a cat. Boom! Just like that: RedCat!
As I began to understand what I truly had, I also realized I needed to come up with a little deeper meaning for the RedCat than simply “red thingy that looks like a cat.” What does this invention really mean to us and to those that will benefit from it? It turns out that was easy to come up with too. I just asked my wife and this is what she came up with (which I take full credit for because I asked her for the idea). 😊
RED stands for Remember Everyone Deployed. As a veteran-owned small business it’s important to remember all those serving away from their families so we can live in peace at home. As we travel and attend meetings, you’ll see us in our RED Friday shirts – remembering that there are service members serving away from home and far from their families. We think of them often and look forward to their safe return.
CAT stands for Critical Associative Training. Those in the military train for all types of scenarios. With the RedCAT, they can dry fire train while creating the appropriate muscle memory. They can dry-run operational scenarios. They can have a simple training solution in the rifle bag that can help them improve outcomes…and they can use it anytime – even if they aren’t on the range.
